Leaving Denver

Brazil

I left Denver on November 20th and flew to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
I arrived at the airport and smelled the humid warm air and experienced
my first visit to South America.2_1.jpg
Brazil is a large and diverse country and includes the vast Amazon rainforest to the deserts of the North east Caatinga region.
While in Rio I wanted to check out the carnival as that is one of the things it is famous for.2015-brazilian-carnival.jpg The carnival takes place over an extended period of time 51 days before Easter.

Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world with a land area of 3.2 million square miles. It is the 5th largest country in the world. Brazil has a population of 180 million people. The capital city is Brasilia
and the currency is the Real. The people speak Portuguese and not Spanish like the countries in South America, although there are many indigenous languages spoken. 53% of the population are white and 38% are Mulatto or of mixed race.
The main religion is roman Catholic. (73%) The name Brazil comes from a tree that grows in the region.
